In his solo exhibition at the store / gallery Sho Barcelona, Cesc Grané presents 7 characters inspired in the Yōkai: in their habitat, with their unique look and own abilities.
The Yōkai – literally apparition, spirit or ghost – are a class of supernatural monsters of Japanese folklore. They appear and disappear and even change shape, so they are impossible to categorize and their possibilities are endless. They are highly respected beings that use their powers according to their nature and objectives, that’s why some are revered while others are feared.
Cesc Grané works with digital illustration with a very personal iconography inspired by Japanese aesthetics and art toys. He jumped from the two to the three dimensions to add volume to his scenes, which ends up in print or animations in which the characters features stand out.
